There must be something in the water on the Prairies, something that produces superb violinists! Malcolm and Darren Lowe, brothers, and both exceptionally talented classical musicians, are Saskatchewan born-and-bred; both were introduced to music early, and both have thrived and are enjoying remarkable careers. Malcolm Lowe joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra as Concertmaster in 1984, and Darren Lowe has been Concertmaster of the Quebec Symphony since 1987. Both brothers also perform with acclaimed chamber ensembles, and have become sought-after teachers.
In this lovely all-Brahms program (Violin Sonata No. 1 in G Major, Op. 78, Piano Trio No. 1 in B major, Op. 8, and Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Op. 115), Malcolm and Darren Lowe come together with celebrated teacher and performer, pianist Suzanne Beaubien; Regina-raised Blair Lofgren, graduate of the Regina Conservatory and Principal Cellist with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra; and National Arts Centre Orchestra musicians Principal Clarinet Kimball Sykes and Associate Principal Viola Jethro Marks.
Presented by the National Arts Centre Orchestra.
